Our Identity

We are a covenant community of born again, baptized believers who are bound together in unity with each other by the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father, and the power of the Holy Spirit.  We are committed to honoring God through the preaching, teaching, and practicing of what God has revealed in His Word.  We have a passion for serving people.  We rejoice in sharing the gospel, with the aim of seeing people reconciled to God when they receive by faith the free and sure gift of eternal life in Christ.  And we aim to help each other find purpose, fulfillment, and true contentment in life through glorifying God.

Our purpose is to share the transforming love of Jesus Christ and to honor Him through worship, obedience, and service to others.  We strive to achieve our purpose by:  sharing our faith, worshiping the Lord, developing spiritual health, and serving others in Jesus' name.

Our Staff

Longbranch Community Baptist Church is congregationally governed, reflecting our affirmation of the priesthood of all believers (1 Peter 2:9; Hebrews 10:19-22).  Our church body has called men to lead through service in the biblically defined roles of pastor (Acts 14:23; Titus 1:5-9; 1 Timothy 3:1-7) and deacon (Acts 6:1-7; 1 Timothy 3:8-13).  The pastor oversees the spiritual well-being of the church with the assistance of deacons who minister to the many practical needs of the congregation.  God has blessed Longbranch with faithful, Christ-centered leaders.

Our History

Dr. Herbert Pedersen served as Pastor for First Baptist Oak Cliff (FBOC) for 19 years, during which time FBOC planted 22 mission points.  Longbranch began in February 1993 as one of FBOC's mission churches.  We originally launched as a core group of 14 people meeting in Dr. Pedersen's home under the name Lake Ridge Chapel.  In February 1997, we acquired the current church property at the corner of FM 1387 and Longbranch Road in Midlothian.  That year, we changed our name to Longbranch Community Baptist Church, and we began meeting in a mobile unit on the site.  We dedicated our first permanent building in 1998.  In 2001, we completed the balcony in the worship facility and built "The Village" complex of buildings to accommodate growing needs for Sunday School, office, and dining space.  In 2004, we dedicated a new multipurpose facility, which now houses our worship, Children's Sunday School, fellowship, recreation, and Parent's Day Out activities.  Throughout our years of growth and expansion, we have maintained a commitment to glorifying God and honoring His revealed Word.
